WHAT IS MOUNJARO® (TIRZEPATIDE)?
Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is the newest medication on the market which has shown great results in losing weight. It has shown to improve metabolic health, control blood sugar, and improve insulin sensitivity. Studies also show that Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) improves overall cardiovascular health and may reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke.
Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist (RA) that was FDA approved in May 2022 for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The drug is manufactured by Eli Lilly & Co. under the brand name Mounjaro®(tirzepatide).
HOW DOES MOUNJARO® (TIRZEPATIDE) HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT?
The drug works by activating your GLP-1 hormone which is secreted in the gut (small intestine) and activates receptors throughout the body that regulates the feeling of hunger. When a person eats, GLP-1 signals to the brain that they are fuller faster than a person can sense normally. The drug delays gastric emptying, giving you the sense of feeling full sooner and longer after eating. In addition, it also suppresses signals of hunger in the brain lowering the urge to snack and decreases the food noise in your brain. By taking this injection, it decreases appetite and overall caloric intake which causes weight loss without any strenuous exercise or diet.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE WEIGHT LOSS ON MOUNJARO®?
You can expect to lose an average of 1-3 pounds a week while taking the FDA approved medicine Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) without making drastic changes to your diet or exercise regimen.
You do not need to be on a highly restrictive diet or perform strenuous exercise to get the result you are looking for. You will subconsciously eat less through portion control and reduced snacking as the drug suppresses appetite, lowering your caloric intake, naturally inducing weight loss similar to if you were on a diet.
HOW TO ADMINISTER MOUNJARO® (TIRZEPATIDE)?
Mounjaro® is a once a week subcutaneous injection. The starting dosage is 2.5 mg for 4 weeks. The doses of Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) may be increased every four weeks in 2.5 mg increments up to a maximum of 15 mg weekly. The dose of the medication is increased depending on the tolerance and efficacy of the medicine. A higher dose does not always mean better results. If your appetite is suppressed with a smaller dose and you are able to lose weight, the dose does not need to be increased if you are taking the medicine for weight loss only.
