In June 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Wegovy® (Semaglutide) for treating weight loss. The drug was developed by Novo Nordisk, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.

Mechanism Action
of Semaglutide

When Semaglutide is injected, the body reacts to it as if the body naturally produced the GLP-1.

Semaglutide targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake and causes feeling of fullness (satiety) resulting in decreased hunger.

Semaglutide also works on our stomach and causes the food to stay in the stomach for a longer period of time which causes delayed gastric emptying.

When our stomach is fuller for a longer time we will eat less which will promote weight loss.

Semaglutide has already helped over millions of patients revolutionize their lives and improve their health. This injection has been described as a game changer.

Imagine being able to look in the mirror and be happy with your reflection – it’s possible with Semaglutide.

Clinical studies show that patients who injected Ozempic®/Wegovy® (Semaglutide) , on average were able to lose 15% to 20% of their starting weight with the use of semaglutide.

Abdominal Fat Weight Loss with Semaglutide

Clinical studies have shown that use of semaglutide improves body composition by reducing excess body fat, including abdominal fat, and increasing the proportion of lean body mass.

In February 2021, the researchers published findings from the STEP 1 trial in The New England Journal of Medicine showing that patients who injected Ozempic® (semaglutide) lost close to 15% of their body weight, on average, compared with 2.4% among patients receiving the placebo.

More than one-third of participants receiving Ozempic® (semaglutide) lost more than 20% of their weight.

Many patients experienced improvements in risk factors for cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke), blood sugar levels and quality of life.

Obesity

Obesity is a very common chronic disease in the United States that is costly and causes serious consequences to our health. Approximately 50% of Americans struggle with obesity. Know that you are not alone.

Despite all the evidence-based information and available FDA-approved anti-obesity medications,  people who have a higher weight encounter difficulty accessing or receiving the care they deserve. Many clinics and providers are hesitant to start anti-obesity medications due to provider inexperience and less depth of understanding about the safety and efficacy of available treatments.
